Youth Programs
The Sarasota Film Festival provides year-round opportunities for young filmmakers to develop their craft, share their stories, and connect with the broader film community.
Hollywood Nights Young Filmmaker Showcase
This student-made, short-film competition is open to students ages 18 and under. We celebrate the accomplishments of young filmmakers by giving them the opportunity to have their work seen at a major international film festival.
Students, families and the general public are invited to attend a Hollywood-style premiere of the student films complete with a red carpet and an awards ceremony.
Junior Jury
By being on the Junior Jury, high school students learn about film analysis, cultural and media literacy, and critical review. The program is highly competitive, with participants chosen based on applications and personal statements.
Junior Jurors screen the best of the films submitted to the Hollywood Nights Young Filmmaker Showcase and select the winning entry. They also meet with professional SFF Jury members to learn about careers in the film industry.
Film Classes & Summer Camps
Afterschool filmmaking classes and school-break camps for students ages 7-18, as well as workshops for adults. Our programs cover all aspects of filmmaking including:
- Screenwriting and storytelling
- Camera operation and cinematography
- Editing and post-production
- Sound design
- Director's craft
Classes and camps are led by experienced film professionals and are designed to be hands-on, collaborative, and fun. Students leave with completed short films to share with family and friends.
Screenwriter's Colony
A project in conjunction with the Florida Studio Theater where student film scripts get a table read by professional actors. This unique program bridges the gap between page and performance, helping young writers hear their work come to life.
