For Sheriff Ulysses (Bob Odenkirk), his provisional posting to the quaint snowy town of Normal, Minnesota was meant to be a welcome respite from both his marital woes and recent moral injuries in the line of duty. But when a botched bank robbery interrupts the municipality’s tranquil pace, a dark secret is inadvertently exposed, and Ulysses soon discovers that the town is anything but its namesake. Director Ben Wheatley quietly (normally?) builds up the tension, and before you know it all heck breaks loose, revealing a Pandora's Box of conspiracies and explsions. Told with some seriously dark humor and subtlety in the least expected places, Normal is both an unrelenting action flick and a commentary on small town social norms.
